Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) is a large NHS teaching hospital in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, England. Founded by Charles White in 1752 as part of the voluntary hospital movement of the 18th century, it is now a major regional and national medical centre.
The North Manchester Hospital rebuild is part of the national 'New Hospital Programme', [17] and was announced by Boris Johnson during a visit to Manchester during the Conservative Party national conference in 2019. [18] The hospital rebuild is estimated to cost £500m with the funding provided by the UK Government, and complete in 2030. [19]
The Infirmary, Manchester Convalescent Home, St Mary's, the Royal Eye Hospital, the Dental Hospital and the Foot Hospital in Manchester were entitled The United Manchester Hospitals when they were taken into the National Health Service in 1948 and run by one hospital management committee. Manchester Royal Infirmary Jane Eddleston (born 1957) is a British medical doctor, professor and critical care consultant at Manchester Royal Infirmary . In 2022 she became the first woman doctor to win the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine Gold Medal.
