A campground is located on the lake's southeast shore. Yellowstone National Park's South Entrance Road (which is also numbered as U.S. Route 287, U.S. Route 89, and U.S. Route 191), run along the east side of Lewis Lake. [2] Like the river, Lewis Lake is named for Meriweather Lewis, commander of the Lewis and Clark Expedition [3]
The lower meadows of Slough Creek, below the campground, are easily accessible from parking areas between the campground and the Cooke City road. There are rainbow trout in this lower water as well as Yellowstone cutthroat trout and cutthroat/rainbow hybrids. The upper meadows of Slough are accessed from a trailhead near the campground.
