Willmar was established as the county seat in 1871 and was incorporated as a village in 1874 and as a city in 1901. Earl B. Olson was born on a farm north of Murdock, Minnesota, the son of Olof and Anna (Anderson) Olson.Both his father and mother were immigrants from Sweden.After eight grades of school in Murdock, Olson enrolled in the West Central School of Agriculture, Morris, MN, (now the University of Minnesota Morris) graduating in 1932.
