In Nashville, US 431, known as Hillsboro Pike, traverses the exit 3 interchange on I-440, and eventually merges into US 70/SR 1 before entering the downtown area. US 431 then joins US 31 and US 41A onto the James Robertson Parkway .
Scruggs purchased land along Hillsboro Pike in the 1830s and eventually owned some 700 acres (2.8 km 2). At his death, his nephew Edward Scruggs inherited the property. Edward Scruggs continued to operate a successful farm and was a key figure in the community as part shareholder in the Hillsboro Turnpike Company, which constructed Hillsboro Pike.
