Hiruni Wijayaratne (born December 5, 1990) is a Sri Lankan distance athlete. [1] She holds eleven Sri Lankan national records for road and track events as of 2022, including the women's 10,000 metres and marathon.
Haile Gebrselassie set a half marathon world record on the second half of the marathon course in 2006. In prior years, both race courses started in Phoenix, however, in 2012 the courses were split. The following year, 2009, an internal audit revealed that the charity in whose name the race had been run, Elite Racing Foundation for Children, Education & Medical Research, had been improperly commingling funds with the for-profit Elite Racing.
