Micanopy (/ ˌ m ɪ k ə ˈ n oʊ p i / ⓘ MIK-ə-NOH-pee) is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States, located south of Gainesville. It is part of the Gainesville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population as of the 2020 census was 648, up from 600 at the 2010 census.
The Micanopy Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on January 28, 1983) located in Micanopy, Florida. It encompasses approximately 470 acres (1.9 km 2 ), bounded by roughly Cholokka Boulevard from US 441 to Ocala Street then Smith Street West to Okehumkee Street.

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is a Florida State Park, encompassing a 21,000-acre (85 km 2) savanna in Alachua County, Florida lying between Micanopy and Gainesville. It is also a U.S. National Natural Landmark. It is crossed by both I-75 and U.S. 441 (which has a scenic outlook ramp). It is in the center of the Paynes Prairie Basin.

A road between Micanopy and Palatka via the Hawthorne area appears on an 1837 map. [20] During the 1840s, a mill was constructed on Little Orange Creek, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of the center of present-day Hawthorne. The Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was founded at this time, and a post office opened at the mill in 1854.

The Winecoff House (also known as the Winecoff Hotel, Central Hotel or Carter Hall) is a U.S. historic building in Micanopy, Florida, at 102 Northeast Seminary Avenue. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2002. [1] It is a Greek Revival-style house build before 1871. [2]
