"Star of the East", originally named "Stern über Bethlehem" is a popular Christmas carol written in the 1800s. The words were written by New York lyricist George Cooper in 1890. The music was arranged by composer Amanda Kennedy in 1883, for a song called "Star of the Sea".
"Stern über Bethlehem" (Star above Bethlehem) is a German sacred Christmas carol which Alfred Hans Zoller created in 1964 in the genre Neues Geistliches Lied. Used by star singers around Epiphany , it has become a popular song and is part of many German hymnals and songbooks.
In the novel, the poem has no title. The title "Betlehems stjärna" ("Star of Bethlehem") originally appeared in 1893 when Alice Tegnér published music, turning the poem into a song. The title has also been used for later melodies. [2] [3]

[3] The first and last verses of the carol are sung together by all three as "verses of praise", while the intermediate verses are sung individually with each king describing the gift he was bringing. "Star of Bethlehem"'s lyrics are about coming to terms with the end of a relationship. The song was originally intended to conclude the shelved album Homegrown. Its lyrics are inspired by Young's breakup with Carrie Snodgress. Young would debut the song on tour with CSNY with an additional verse.
Adger M. Pace (August 13, 1882 - February 12, 1959) was an American hymn writer, music performer and teacher. He (co-)wrote close to 4,000 Southern gospel shape note songs, including Jesus Is All I Need, My Father Answers Prayers, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem, and Peace, Sweet Peace.
The lyrics of the "Shepherd's Pipe Carol", set after the annunciation to the shepherds, are in third person about a shepherd boy playing pipe music on the way to Bethlehem. [8] The boy later states in the carol that he will perform his music for the baby Jesus when he reaches the stable where the Star of Bethlehem was located. [ 8 ]
