In 1982, the station switched to Top 40. The following year in 1983, rival station 99.5 WMAG made its debut, giving away a Rolls-Royce. WRQK co-owner Tom Armshaw countered by giving away a blue Corvette. [4] Beginning in the middle of 1984, the station became an affiliate of Dan Ingram's Top 40 Satellite Survey.

WKTT and sister station WICO were purchased effective May 12, 2016 from Delmarva Broadcasting Company by Robin Rothschild, at a purchase price of $300,000. On March 1, 2017, WKTT changed their format from country to urban contemporary, branded as "Live 97.5" after it was sold to Rojo Broadcasting, LLC for $305,000.
On October 26, 2018, WCTG began transmitting from its new facilities licensed to West Pocomoke, Maryland, and serving the Salisbury area; the station concurrently began simulcasting on WVES in Chincoteague, Virginia, WCTG's previous location.
