This is a list of resurrected species. A previously extinct or lost species can be " revived " or recreated through various methods such as cloning , breeding , genome editing , thawing, and seed germination in plants.
The Pyrenean ibex, also known as the bouquetin (French) and bucardo (Spanish), is the only animal to have survived de-extinction past birth through cloning.. De-extinction (also known as resurrection biology, or species revivalism) is the process of generating an organism that either resembles or is an extinct species. [1]
De-extinction, enabling an organism that either resembles or is an extinct species, is also known as "resurrection biology" and often described as working on "resurrecting" dead species. [ 76 ] [ 77 ] [ 78 ]
Some hypotheses include the inability to compete with other species for food, infections and diseases, and poaching. The Pyrenean ibex became the first taxon ever to become " unextinct " on July 30, 2003, [ 12 ] [ 4 ] when a cloned female ibex was born alive and survived for several minutes, before dying from lung defects.
This project just seems rather superficial compared to other projects, which is using animals from the same species. Can't forget the environmental & conservation uses of these projects. To avoid an edit war, I hope to see any reason why this should be listed. Monsieur X 10:28, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
As of 2022, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed 40 animal species as extinct in the wild. [1] That is approximately 0.04% of all evaluated animal species. The IUCN also lists five animal subspecies as extinct in the wild. This is a complete list of wild animal species and subspecies listed as extinct by the IUCN.

It does not represent all marine species, just those that are readily fossilized. The labels of the traditional "Big Five" extinction events and the more recently recognised Capitanian mass extinction event are clickable links; see Extinction event for more details. (source and image info)
