M3: The Dark Metal (M3〜ソノ黒キ鋼〜, Emu Surī: Sono Kuroki Hagane, lit. "M3: That Black Steel") is a Japanese anime television series produced by Satelight. It aired from April 21, 2014 to October 1, 2014. [1] It is directed by Junichi Sato, written by Mari Okada and has mecha designs by Shōji Kawamori.
The series is something of a predecessor to works like Initial D and Wangan Midnight, with its touge racing, aero parts tuning, and anime-style "Story Mode". It has also RPG and simulation gameplay which was succeeded by the Shutokou Battle titles Kattobi Tune and Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix .
Its first installment, Shutokō Battle '94: Drift King, was released in 1994 for the Super Famicom, while the latest installment is Tokyo Xtreme Racer, that released in early access on PC on 23rd January 2025 which is Genki's first major platform racing game release in 18 years as the last major release was back in September 2007.
