Blake Edwards directs a rare thriller skillfully, with a great cast, led by Lee Remick & Glenn Ford, and a memorable Ross Martin as the villain. Set in San Fran & set to a great Henry Mancini score, Martin's a master of disguise psycho who threatens plucky bank teller Remick if she doesn't steal money from her employer.

  3. Blake Edwards was always rumored to be gay or bi, and even admitted to experimenting with guys when he was young. He included sympathetic gay (male) characters in Victor/Victoria, S.O.B. and 10, which all featured his wife, so it's not like they were dodging the issue.

We all know about present day, Travolta / Preston - and in the past, Janet Gaynor/ Adrian, Mary Martin / Richard Halliday, and (allegedly) Julie Andrews/Blake Edwards .

  5. Julie Andrews - the Data Lounge

Blake Edwards was gay. It’s really their business but I’m always going to have trouble with those who cover up their real sexuality, even though in their time a career was not possible if honest. I couldn’t do it- and I’m old enough to know the damage.

  6. Rock and Andrews loathed each other. The Darling Lil shoot was one of Hudson's worst experiences. The director was Julie Andrew's closeted husband Blake Edwards. When the bitchy Andrews pushed Hudson too far shrieking "We have nothing in common!" Hudson snapped back "Wrong. We have your husband." In front of the crew no less.

Blake Edwards is so overrated. He made a ton of forgettable junk during his career: Skin Deep, Blind Date, Sunset, That's Life. A Fine Mess, The Carey Treatment, Wild Rovers, Darling Lilly, What Did You Do in the War Daddy, Darling Lilly, SOB, Switch . . . Breakfast at Tiffany's is probably his best film.

Blake Edwards was one of the producers, so Julie had money in it, too. The problem is that they produced a dull and lifeless version of what had been a hit movie. Andrews was too old and not in fighting shape and was unable to do 8 shows a week. She shredded her voice and missed a LOT of shows.

  9. "Victor / Victoria" (1982) - the Data Lounge

The movie was first conceived my husband and wife team Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews in 1978, yet took four years to bring to the screen (one reason was Peter Sellers, originally cast as 'Toddy' passed away). It was nominated for many Oscars, and won one (I think 'best original music'). What do DLrs think ? Has it aged well over 40 years ?

That gave her the nodes on the vocal cords, and then when the surgery was botched she couldn't sing anything any more. Before he died, Blake Edwards said people would cry if they heard her sing post-surgery because her beautiful voice was completely destroyed. Good singers keep their voices after the age of 60 and she did not.

  11. Julie writes that Blake Edwards' first wife actress Patricia Walker had substance abuse problems and that she threatened to kill herself regularly. This she did frequently during calls from her London home to Julie's home in Gstaad when her 2 children with Blakes were visiting j and B for the holidays.
