This backport from Windows 8 updates the Segoe UI font by adding browser support for Emoji and other symbols to Windows 7. More Emoji characters can be installed by copying the Segoe UI Emoji font file, seguiemj.ttf, from another computer running Windows 8 or later, into the Windows 7 computer.
However, most modern text rendering systems instead use a font's .notdef character, which in most cases is an empty box, or "?" or "X" in a box [7] (this browser displays ), sometimes called a 'tofu'. There is no Unicode code point for this symbol. Thus the replacement character is now only seen for encoding errors.
Among the fonts in widespread use, [6] [7] full implementation is provided by Segoe UI Symbol and significant partial implementation of this range is provided by Arial Unicode MS and Lucida Sans Unicode, which include coverage for 83% (80 out of 96) and 82% (79 out of 96) of the symbols, respectively.
