Star Pointer (1889–1910) was the first Standardbred race horse to complete a mile in less than two minutes. He was a pacer by Brown Hal out of Sweepstakes. Star Pointer was bred by Captain Henry P. Pointer of Spring Hill, Tennessee. His sire was Brown Hal and his dam was Sweepstakes. He began racing in 1894.

Albatross (1968–1998) was a bay Standardbred horse by Meadow Skipper. He was voted United States Harness Horse of the Year in 1971 and 1972. Albatross won 59 of 71 starts, including the Cane Pace and Messenger Stakes in 1971, earned $1,201,477. [1] It was, however, as a sire that he really made his mark.

As a yearling, the colt was offered for sale at Keeneland and was bought for US$1,100,000 (equivalent to about $3,100,000 in 2023) by BBA Ireland [1] on behalf of Robert Sangster and the Coolmore Stud.
Bingen created a bloodline in the making of the American Standardbred through the Hambletonian 10 offspring Electioneer. Bingen was bred by David Bennet, Lexington. He was broken in by Raymond Snedeker in 1894. George W. Leavitt of Boston and E H Greeley of Ellsworth, Maine, bought him the same year. In 1895 his career as a sire started in Maine.
