Norepinephrine (NE), also called noradrenaline (NA) or noradrenalin, is an organic chemical in the catecholamine family that functions in the brain and body as a hormone, neurotransmitter and neuromodulator.
Two catecholamines, norepinephrine and dopamine, act as neuromodulators in the central nervous system and as hormones in the blood circulation. The catecholamine norepinephrine is a neuromodulator of the peripheral sympathetic nervous system but is also present in the blood (mostly through "spillover" from the synapses of the sympathetic system).
Dopamine Norepinephrine Serotonin. Monoamine neurotransmitters are neurotransmitters and neuromodulators that contain one amino group connected to an aromatic ring by a two-carbon chain (such as -CH 2-CH 2-). Examples are dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin.
Estrogen also impacts norepinephrine, the neurotransmitter that regulates the fight-or-flight response, and can increase alertness. Imbalances can raise blood pressure and cause anxiety and panic.
Norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline and sold under the brand name Levophed among others, is a medication used to treat people with very low blood pressure. [2] It is the typical medication used in sepsis if low blood pressure does not improve following intravenous fluids . [ 3 ]
For example, for individuals with bipolar disorder, SSRIs are associated with an increased risk of a manic episode, so preferred medications are mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, norepinephrine ...

Dopamine is converted into norepinephrine by the enzyme dopamine β-hydroxylase, with O 2 and L-ascorbic acid as cofactors. [25] Norepinephrine is converted into epinephrine by the enzyme phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase with S-adenosyl-L-methionine as the cofactor. [25] Some of the cofactors also require their own synthesis. [25]
