Escherichia coli (/ ˌ ɛ ʃ ɪ ˈ r ɪ k i ə ˈ k oʊ l aɪ /; commonly abbreviated E. coli) is a Gram-negative gammaproteobacterium commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms (endotherms). The descendants of two isolates, K-12 and B strain, are used routinely in molecular biology as both a tool and a model organism.
Enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) Verotoxin-producing E. coli; E. coli O157:H7 is an enterohemorrhagic strain also 2006 North American E. coli outbreak; E. coli O104:H4, also 2011 E. coli O104:H4 outbreak; Escherichia coli O121; Escherichia coli O104:H21; Escherichia coli K1, meningitis
Similarly, other strains of E. coli (e.g. the K-12 strain commonly used in recombinant DNA work) are sufficiently different that they would merit reclassification. A strain is a subgroup within the species that has unique characteristics that distinguish it from other strains. These differences are often detectable only at the molecular level ...
Most strains of E. coli are harmless; however, if the bacterium gets into the bloodstream due to a weakened immune system it can cause infections, ranging from mild to life-threatening.
Referred to as E. coli O157:H7 or Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), this strain of E. coli can be particularly dangerous and even life-threatening. The primary sources of STEC outbreaks are ...
A 2012 review of cannabis use and dependency in the United States by Danovitch et al said that "42% of persons over age 12 have used cannabis at least once in their lifetime, 11.5% have used within the past year, and 1.8% have met diagnostic criteria for cannabis abuse or dependence within the past year. Among individuals who have ever used ...
Hash oil or cannabis oil is an oleoresin obtained by the extraction of cannabis or hashish. [1] It is a cannabis concentrate containing many of its resins and terpenes – in particular, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and other cannabinoids. Hash oil is usually consumed by smoking, vaporizing or eating. [2]
A colicin is a type of bacteriocin produced by and toxic to some strains of Escherichia coli. [1] Colicins are released into the environment to reduce competition from other bacterial strains.
