Sun City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, that is located within the Phoenix metropolitan area. The population was 39,931 as of the 2020 census. [3] Its adjoining sister city is Sun City West. Both Sun Cities are retirement communities popular with snowbirds.
It is located west of the Phoenix city limits, within Maricopa County, Arizona. The boundaries of the west valley is generally considered Interstate 17 in the east, Buckeye in west, the Sierra Estrella Mountains in the south, and Anthem in the north.
Sun City West is located 23 miles (37 km) northwest of downtown Phoenix.It is bordered to the south, west, and north by the city of Surprise. U.S. Route 60 runs along the southwest border of the community, and the Arizona State Route 303 freeway bounds the community to the north and northwest.

Four counties (Mohave, Pima, Yavapai and Yuma) were created in 1864 following the organization of the Arizona Territory in 1862. The now defunct Pah-Ute County was split from Mohave County in 1865, but merged back in 1871. All but La Paz County were created by the time Arizona was granted statehood in 1912.
