The University of Western Ontario (UWO; branded as Western University) is a public research university in London, Ontario, Canada. The main campus is located on 455 hectares (1,120 acres) of land, surrounded by residential neighbourhoods and the Thames River bisecting the campus's eastern portion.
The Library and Information Science (LIS) program at the University of Western Ontario was established in 1966 as the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). In response to a shortage of professional librarians in Canada in the 1960s, the Ontario government set up a committee to investigate the creation of a new library school. [5]
With the steady expansion of the faculty, and undergraduate enrolment surpassing 700 students, FIMS moved from Middlesex College into the North Campus Building for more up to date facilities in 2006.
