I-10 leads northwest 13 miles (21 km) to Las Cruces , the county seat , and southeast 35 miles (56 km) to El Paso, Texas .

The Hot Springs Post Office, or Truth or Consequences Main Post Office at 400 Main Street in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico was built in 1940. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. [1] It is Classical Revival in style, and was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under Louis A. Simon.

In 1890, the town was founded as Bonito when several Hispanic families made a deal with a cattle agent to settle here. The land was then deeded to the Butte Land and Cattle Company after the land was proved. In 1901 a post office was established, with Urbano Arrey, who gave his name to the community, as the first postmaster.
