Nikolai Sergeyevich Korotkov, also Korotkoff (Russian: Никола́й Серге́евич Коротко́в; 26 February [O.S. 14 February] 1874 – 14 March 1920) was a Russian surgeon, a pioneer of 20th-century vascular surgery, and the inventor of auscultatory technique for blood pressure measurement.
Korotkov's father, Mikhail Korotkov was a banker who worked before the revolution at the Russo-Asiatic Bank in the Chinese city of Kuldzha. [5] He had left his family even before Korotkov was born. His pregnant mother Anna, returned to Moscow where she brought up Aleksandr and her daughter Nina alone. [5]
