Nguyễn Nhật Ánh was born in 1955 in Quảng Nam province, Vietnam. At an early age, he attended Tiểu La, Trần Cao Vân and Phan Chu Trinh schools. In 1973, he moved to Sài Gòn to pursue a teaching career.

The Sorrow of War (Vietnamese: Nỗi buồn chiến tranh) is a 1991 novel by the Vietnamese writer Bảo Ninh. The novel was Ninh's graduation project at the Nguyen Du Writing School in Hanoi. [ 1 ] It tells the story of a soldier who is collecting dead bodies after the war and then begins to think about his past.
The novel follows Paxton Andrews, who is stationed in Vietnam as a journalist during the Vietnam War, focusing on the men she encounters and how her life and the lives of the people she encounters are changed forever. Andrews has been heartbroken many times, having lost her father, two lovers, and a nanny to whom she was close.
