The General Conference is a biannual gathering of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), held every April and October at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. During each conference, church members gather in a series of two-hour sessions to listen to the faith's leaders.
In the LDS Church today, temples serve two main purposes: (1) temples are locations in which Latter-day Saints holding a temple recommend can perform ordinances on behalf of themselves and their deceased ancestors, and (2) temples are considered to be a house of holiness where members can go to commune with God and receive personal revelation. There are currently no LDS Church temples in Scotland. The Preston England Temple in Lancashire has served Scotland since 1998. However, during the April 2024 general conference, church president Russell M. Nelson announced that a temple will be constructed in Edinburgh.
