Actually, they should be aware, because the Lakers originally started in the first pro-basketball league, the National Basketball League (NBL). As the Minneapolis Lakers, and led by George Mikan, the Lakers won the 1948 NBL championship. The next year, they merged with the BAA to form the NBA, where the Lakers won 5 of the first 6 NBA titles.
Lakers created a standard of winning at least a title per decade and often times 3-5 titles in a ten year span. Lakers rightfully have different standards and media/NBA fans view us as a title or bust franchise.
According to an article in the NY Times (by a professed Celtics fan), there is a very strong case to be made that the Lakers have, in fact, won 18 championships. In short, two early leagues merged to form the current NBA, and the league counts legacy championships from one but not the other (despite the fact that it was the stronger league).
The Celtics have only won one NBA title in the past 37 years while the Lakers have won 8 titles in that time span. Celtics won most of their titles between '57 and '69 (11 times) when the league was still young and it was easy to maintain a dynasty.
It will take me over a year and a half to get to the Playoffs. Pass First Point Guard 3PT Specialist. I want to be traded to the Lakers next season 2013-2014. Started 60 overall, 87 overall currently, will be 88-89 overall by Playoffs, and get to 90-94 overall by NBA Finals. I grind every game and use development. I am doing The Association Lakers.
Of course, that never came to be as Jordan won 6 NBA Championships with two threepeats. He could have gone 8 straight if he didn't take that time off. Another question I ask myself sometimes is how many NBA Championships Larry Bird would have won if he jumped from team to team like LeBron did?

Does LeBron have more rings if the Warriors didn’t exist? I say he probably has 2 more rings, including a 3-peat from 2015-2017. Edit: I didn’t mean the Warriors never existed. I meant if the Warriors Super Team with Curry/Klay/Green never existed lol.
Lakers have a bunch of arguably top 10 all-time or top 5 at their position. Wilt Shaq Kobe Magic Kareem LeBron West Baylor I would say Celtics have maybe 3 or 4 and that's pushing it. Guys that could be argued top 5 at their position OR top 10 all-time. I think Lakers have legit 6 guys who you can reasonably say are top 10 all-time.
There's no question that the early 2000's were dominated by the Lakers and Spurs. The two teams won 7 of 10 championships over the 10 year period from 1999-2008. If you expand a bit more, they won 9-12 championships (09 and 10 Lakers). Many people debate between whether they have Kobe or Duncan ranked higher on all time rankings.
