Aging is a process by which an artwork, typically a painting or sculpture, is made to appear old. It is meant to emulate the natural deterioration that can occur over many decades or centuries. Although there may be "innocent" reasons for it, ageing is a technique very often used in art forgery. [1]
Fluid paint, in general, is a moveable form of acrylic paint. Fluid paints can be used like watercolors, for acrylic pouring, or for glazing and washes. To create a more fluid consistency, water or a pouring medium is added to the paint. The ratio of paint to water/pouring medium depends on how thick the glaze or pouring paint is expected to be.
Wood shelving is a more economical option but the wood must be sealed to prevent the emission of acids and volatiles. The most recommended coating is moisture-borne polyurethane. Paints such as two-part-epoxy, latex, and acrylic can also be used, but they vary in their effectiveness and ease of use.
Storage of acrylic paintings should be clean and free of dust and heat – below room temperature is best as it will reduce further softening of the top layer of the paint. Exposing acrylic paintings to temperatures ranging near sub zero will cause damaging cracking. Acrylic paint is highly susceptible to mold growth.
