Sigma Tau Gamma is college social fraternity in North America. It was established at the University of Central Missouri in 1920. It has collegiate chapters, alumni chapters, and alumni associations.
Established in 1966, the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation is its distinct legal entity, considered a public charity by the federal government and is separate from the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. Sigma Tau was an engineering honor society. [1] [2] In 1974, it merged with Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society and the second oldest collegiate honor society in the United States. As part of the merger, Tau Beta Pi absorbed twelve Sigma Tau chapters into its existing chapters located on the same campuses.
