Franklin is a city in, and the county seat of, Robertson County, [5] Texas, United States. It is within the Brazos Valley , on the cusp of the East and Central Texas regions. As of the 2020 census , the city population was 1,614.
Franklin County was erected and established in 1875, four decades after the independence of Texas, from land ceded by neighboring Titus County. [3] Although the origin of the county's name is not recorded, it is generally believed to have been named after Judge Benjamin C. Franklin, the first appointed justice in the Republic of Texas.

It was designed by Frederick Ernst Ruffini and built in the Second Empire. Its signature mansard roof was removed in 1924 but was restored in the 2010s.
The Franklin Mountains of Texas (Spanish: Sierras de los Mansos [1]) are a small range 23 miles (37 km) long, 3 miles (5 km) wide that extend from El Paso, Texas, north into New Mexico. [2] The Franklins were formed due to crustal extension related to the Cenozoic Rio Grande rift .

Mount Vernon is located at the center of Franklin County. U.S. Route 67 passes through the northern side of town as Main Street, leading east 16 miles (26 km) to Mount Pleasant and west 23 miles (37 km) to Sulphur Springs.
