Delta Sigma Theta (ΔΣΘ), an international historically Black sorority, was founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University.It has more than 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Liberia, Bermuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, South Korea and Nigeria.
The scholarship and standards committee was established in 1929. Under the threat of losing its name, the sorority sought national incorporation. On January 20, 1930, the Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was incorporated as a perpetual body, which eliminated the need for each chapter to seek its charter. [12]

With the help of 4-5 others, Tony Dphax King led the organization as president and introduced the fraternity. Delta Sigma fraternity, (ΔΣ) was founded in 1897 at Lewis Institute in Chicago, Illinois to Temple University in 1990. Its first university chapter which included Orloff Phillips from Bethlehem, Pa. and eight others.
The growing fraternity paused in its growth like other such societies when the start of World War II led to a decrease in fraternity enrollment nationwide. However, once the war concluded, Delta Sigma Theta expanded westward; the Chi chapter was founded in May 1963 by a Mu chapter alumni, Alfonso Tobias.
