Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound with the formula H 2 O 2. In its pure form, it is a very pale blue [ 5 ] liquid that is slightly more viscous than water . It is used as an oxidizer , bleaching agent, and antiseptic , usually as a dilute solution (3%–6% by weight) in water for consumer use and in higher concentrations for industrial use.
For materials containing more than 1.0 percent but not more than 7.0 percent hydrogen peroxide, the available oxygen content (O a) is not more than 0.5 percent, when determined using the equation: O a = 16x = where for a material containing k species of organic peroxides:
Fenton's reagent is a solution of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) and an iron catalyst (typically iron(II) sulfate, FeSO 4). [1] It is used to oxidize contaminants or waste water as part of an advanced oxidation process. Fenton's reagent can be used to destroy organic compounds such as trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene).
Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) – mostly an oxidant but can occasionally act as a reducing agent, typically in analytical chemistry [citation needed] Hydrazine (Wolff-Kishner reduction) Diisobutylaluminium hydride (DIBAL-H) Oxalic acid (C 2 H 2 O 4) Formic acid (HCOOH) Ascorbic acid (C 6 H 8 O 6) Reducing sugars, such as erythrose, see Aldose
Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) can be produced by passing a volume of 96% to 98% hydrogen and 2 to 4% oxygen through an electric discharge. [7] A more commercially-viable method is to allow autoxidation of an organic intermediate, 2-ethylanthrahydroquinone dissolved in an organic solvent, to oxidize to H 2 O 2 and 2-ethylanthraquinone. Vaporized hydrogen peroxide (trademarked VHP, [1] also known as hydrogen peroxide vapor, HPV) is a vapor form of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) with applications as a low-temperature antimicrobial vapor used to decontaminate enclosed and sealed areas such as laboratory workstations, isolation and pass-through rooms, [2] and even aircraft interiors ...
