Owensboro is located on U.S. Route 60 and Interstate 165 about 107 miles (172 km) southwest of Louisville , and is the principal city of the Owensboro metropolitan area .

The Odd Fellows Building in Owensboro, Kentucky, also denoted DAOB 86, is a three-story building that was built in 1895. It served historically as a professional building, as a clubhouse, and as a specialty store. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
By the late 1960s, Interstate 65, which runs just to the east of Bowling Green, was completed. The Green River Parkway (now called the William H. Natcher Parkway and renamed I-165 in April 2019), was completed in the 1970s to connect Bowling Green and Owensboro. These vital transportation arteries attracted many industries to Bowling Green.
