The MEV Exocet made its public debut in June 2010 at the Newark kit car show. In 1946, Hawk produced one of the first all-plastic model kits, the Curtiss R3C-1 racer. [8] Four additional kits (all classic 1930s racers) were added in 1948; the Gee Bee, Howard Ike, Laird Solution and Supermarine S6B. These early kits were molded in acetate plastic, but from 1949 Hawk employed polystyrene in its injection-molding process. [9]
In 1984 RW Kit Cars took over Perry Automotive Development's Karma project. Perry had been manufacturing the Karma, which was designed by Custom Classics of California, since 1982. It is a fibreglass copy of the Ferrari Dino 246 GT , built around the floor pan of a Volkswagen Beetle , a popular choice of donor vehicle at the time.
The "component cars" and parts manufactured by Sterling Sports Cars LLC. were sold as components. The cars were not pre-assembled by Sterling Sports Cars but were intended to be assembled by the purchaser or by a third-party. The Sterling was originally designed to be fitted to a VW Beetle floor pan.

Automotive Design and Development Ltd (ADD) was an English company responsible for the creation of the futuristic-looking Nova kit car. It was based in Southampton from 1971 to 1973 after which it moved to Accrington, Lancashire until 1975.
