  2. Thickness of wood carving knives. | BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/thickness-of-wood-carving-knives.1617918

37,120. Oct 17, 2018. #5. Agreed, a main blade longer than 1.5" would be better in 3/32. On larger blades ( 3/4" height and about 2.5" long), I use a scandi where the upper bevel is about 33% of the height. A half inch high scandi in 3/32" stock would be about a 10° inclusive edge …. very sharp! On the smaller detail blades ( 3/8" to 1/2 ...

  4. Review - Benchmade 200 Puukko - BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/benchmade-200-puukko.1620052

The saying goes, all puukkos are knives but not all knives are puukkos.a puukko is a wood carving knife FIRST. It's really a specialized tool. The Benchmade 200 series Puukko is designed to take the best attributes of the top survival/bushcraft knives and put them all in one package, a "Jack of all trades master of none" type blade

  5. Scandi grind, what are they good for? | BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/scandi-grind-what-are-they-good-for.1179790

May 9, 2014. #13. They are good for shallow cutting on soft, nonbinding material. Compare one to a regular flat ground blade and the scandi will do just as well as long as the depth of cut is no deeper than the edge bevel of the flat ground blade and as long as the edge angle is the same.

  6. is hss any good for knives? - BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/is-hss-any-good-for-knives.451932

Messages. 1,124. Feb 2, 2007. #2. Deppends on the steel. Most saw blades will make a blade but the trick is knowing what steel it is. If you dont know the steel you can grind them down slowly so as not to change the heat treat and be done. If you want to aneal and work them (easier on your tools) you would need steel type to reheat treat.

  7. White River Camp Cleaver | BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/white-river-camp-cleaver.1975745

The White River Camp Cleaver worked better for carving then I thought it might. The continuously rounded edge seamlessly cut into wood, somewhat surprising given its high saber grind. Creating try sticks was easy, the blade shape made push cuts with my thumb very comfortable. The spine is not sharp so there was no irritation.

  8. Cody Lundin's original knife | Page 4 | BladeForums.com

It is far lighter in weight than most fixed blades. If you want it to stick in the sheath better or feel more secure in your hands than wave a torch over the paint until it starts to bubble up. Don't get to aggressive and keep going over it with steel wool until the paint is gone.

  9. BK22 in depth Review - BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/bk22-in-depth-review.1146927

It teaches and reinforces the fundamentals of basic knife handling. The BK22 s performance was acceptable for the try stick and troll carving. Push cuts were a bit difficult to do, due to the thickness of the blade and friction caused by the epoxy finish. After 45 minutes of carving I started to experience wrist fatigue.

  10. Ontario Rat 5 is...okay | BladeForums.com

    www.bladeforums.com/threads/ontario-rat-5-is-okay.1967789

Jan 8, 2024. #2. There it is, in the sheath: Out of the box, it is one of the least comfortable things I have ever held in my hand...and that includes a vicious biting, scratching lizard I used to own. So, something had to be done: Better. Now, I have read that the Rat 5 is kind of an emergency knife, or an "urban survival" tool.
