Branson is a Statutory Town located in Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. [1] The town population was 57 at the 2020 United States Census . [ 5 ] Branson is the southernmost town in the State of Colorado, located just 0.3 miles (0.48 km) from the New Mexico border.
FasTracks is a twelve-year, $6.9 billion public transportation expansion developed by the Regional Transportation District and currently underway. [14] [28] The plan called for six new lines: light rail, diesel commuter rail, and electric commuter rail lines with a combined length of 122 miles (196 km) to be opened between 2013 and 2017. [28]
In 1989, rail supporters involved in preserving Denver Union Station formed the nonprofit Colorado Rail Passenger Association (ColoRail). The group has regularly advocated for the Front Range route, [ 2 ] and in 1997 played a role in starting Amtrak Thruway bus service along the corridor from Denver to Raton .
The station was built at a considerable cost and grandeur for both the time and location it was built in. The design called for $60,000 (over $1.5 million in 2020 [5]), with a further $15,000 (approx. $400,000) being spent to renovate and improve the grounds around the station. The design of the station can be described as 'Italian-Renaissance'.
