The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is a nonprofit national association in the United States representing more than 2,500 individual members, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs of professional social work education.
It is one of the oldest social work programs in the US. [7] In 1904, it was expanded into the first full-time full-year course of graduate study in social work, and later a two-year course, at the newly renamed New York School of Philanthropy. [8] [2] The name of the School was changed in 1919 to the New York School of Social Work. [2]
In 1980, the school launched a Doctor of Social Welfare program and in 1987, the New York State Education Department authorized the school to grant the PhD degree. [ 6 ] In the early 1990s, the School of Social Work’s building at 3 Washington Square North was joined with 1 and 2 Washington Square North to become the school’s new home. [ 7 ]
