Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. CC OOnt (November 17, 1938 – May 1, 2023) was a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music.
"Sundown" is a song by Canadian folk artist Gordon Lightfoot, from the titular album, released as a single in March 1974. "Sundown" reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and easy listening charts [2] and No. 13 on the Hot Country singles chart, [3] as well as No. 1 in Canada on RPM ' s national singles chart.
In his Allmusic review, critic Richie Unterberger praised the album, writing "The songs weren't quite as impressive as his first batch, but they were still very good, highlighted by the epic "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" and an electrified remake of "The Way I Feel."
Although a commercial failure (Lightfoot referred to it as "the music industry's best-kept secret"), the critical reception of the album was positive. "Baby Step Back" peaked at number 17 on the US Adult Contemporary chart and #50 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached number six on the Canadian Adult Contemporary chart. [1]

Lightfoot! is the debut album by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Although it was recorded in December 1964, [1] the album was not released until January 1966 on the United Artists label. [3] [4] At the 2017 Polaris Music Prize, the album won the public vote for the Heritage Prize in the 1960–1975 category. [5]
