The Brown County Art Colony is an artist colony formed in Nashville and Brown County, Indiana. Adolph Shulz is considered to be the founder of the colony, encouraging many Indiana and regional artists to come to Brown County to paint.
William McKendree Snyder (December 20, 1848 – September 30, 1930) was an American painter active in Indiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries best known for detailed Indiana landscapes. He was one of the first artists to paint in Brown County, Indiana , making him a forerunner of the Brown County Art Colony .
The couple divorced in 1923. Vawter moved to Nashville, Indiana, to join the Brown County Art Colony permanently in 1908. He had two residences in the area, one a studio in town, the other a 57 acres (23 hectares) estate about a half mile outside of Nashville. Vawter was a pioneer member of the Brown County Art Gallery Association. [4]
State Road 46 between Bloomington and Nashville was worked on extensively until it was considered one of the best gravel roads in the state. Some years later it was hard surfaced. In 1907, artist T. C. Steele built a studio near Belmont in rural Brown County and Adolph Shulz came to Nashville and thus began the Brown County Art Colony.
Nashville is a town in Washington Township, Brown County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,256 at the 2020 census. The town is the county seat of Brown County and is the county's only incorporated town. [4] The town is best known as the center of the Brown County Art Colony and as a tourist destination.

Goth became a full-time resident of Nashville, Indiana in the 1920s and was active in its Brown County Art Colony. She became a charter member and former president of the Brown County Art Gallery Association in 1926 and a cofounder of the Brown County Art Guild in 1954.
