Hart was killed in 1883 while working on a ditch near Plum Creek. Hart Street, one of Dyer's major north–south streets, bears his name. Hart's wife, Martha Dyer Hart, is the town's namesake. [11] Dyer was incorporated as a town under Indiana law on February 8, 1910. [1]
Hartsdale took its name from the Hart Farm. [2] Aaron Hart was an early resident of the Schererville-Dyer area. [3] He owned about 20,000 acres of land. Most of the land was useless marshland in the low areas between Lake Michigan's old Glenwood and Calumet Shorelines. [3]
