The mountains are on the border between Pitkin County and Gunnison County, Colorado, United States, about 19 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Aspen. Both peaks are fourteeners . Maroon Peak, at 4,317 metres (14,163 ft), is the 27th highest peak in Colorado.
Aspen Mountain is a mountain summit in the Elk Mountains range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 11,212-foot (3,417 m) peak is located in White River National Forest , 1.4 miles (2.2 km) south-southeast ( bearing 162°) of downtown Aspen in Pitkin County , Colorado , United States .
Hayden Peak is located 15 miles (24 km) west of the Continental Divide in the Elk Mountains which are a subrange of the Rocky Mountains.The mountain is situated 10 miles (16 km) south of the community of Aspen and 3.6 miles (5.8 km) north of Castle Peak.
The mountain's toponym was officially adopted on January 1, 1974, by the United States Board on Geographic Names to honor Dr. Warren Hugh Twining (1876–1946), mayor of Aspen (1905–1907), member of Colorado House of Representatives (1925–34), and Speaker of the Colorado State House of Representatives (1933–34). [4]
As of 2012, based on data from the 2009–10 school year, according to U.S. News & World Report, Aspen High School, the only high school in the Aspen School District, is the top ranked high school in Colorado and ranked 59th in the United States. The high school has grades 9 to 12, 540 students, and 41 teachers.
Geissler Mountain is set 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the Continental Divide and north of Independence Pass in the Sawatch Range which is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains.The mountain is located 14 miles (23 km) east of the community of Aspen in the Hunter–Fryingpan Wilderness, on land managed by White River National Forest.
