Nicola Mary Coughlan [1] (/ ˈ k ɒ k l ə n /; born 9 January 1987) is an Irish actress. She is known for her roles as Clare in Channel 4 's sitcom Derry Girls (2018–2022) and Penelope in Netflix 's Bridgerton (2020–present).
The series follows Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), their friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O'Donnell), and Michelle's English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn) as they navigate their teenage years during the end of the Troubles in Derry, where they all attend a Catholic girls' secondary school.
