Married. Aug 15, 2014. #1. In case anyone is interested the pre 2011 update NIV of 1984 can be found online here: Read the New International Version Bible Free Online. Since the 2011 update all electronic versions of NIV84 have been removed from places like Bible gateway and the various Bible apps so I was quite surprised to see it here.
Aug 1, 2018. #1. The KJV and NIV have been the only books I started out with. It has came to my attention that the NIV has missing verses. And from online I am hearing the NIV and modern versions are Vatican versions. Then I hear that some of the text of the KJV has been altered because King James was a bisexual and found some things offensive.
That aside, the 1984 NIV is better than the 2011, but it is going to be harder to find with the 2011 edition being the one in print. This new NIV has taken gender neutrality to an entirely new level to be politically correct. This is not how to translate God's word. Not only that, the NIV is extremely similar to the JW's Bible.
Jul 17, 2012. #5. English Translation of the Greek Septuagint Bible. The Translation of the Greek Old Testament Scriptures, Including the Apocrypha. Click to expand... While there is absolutely nothing wrong with reading the Septuagint (and in fact it is necessary for basic scholarship of the Old Testament) it should be noted in case the OP is ...
I have several Bibles, KJV, NIV, and RSV. I have the Orthodox Study Bible that I use to reference regularly. I also have the Holy Gospel and the Holy Apostle (it's the NT in two volumes minus the Apocalypse) in Eastern Orthodox Bible translation (EOB), a formal Modern English translation from the Patriarchal Text of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the official Greek translation of the Orthodox ...
I have not read the 2011 Bible yet, but the 1984 NIV was supposed to avoid bias. CE is the Catholic Edition, with the complete number of books. RSV and ESV have that option, and any specifically Catholic or Orthodox Bible will also be complete. The original KJV was also complete, but that changed a long long time ago.
Baptist. Aug 26, 2004. #3. I think it is the preference of most Churches which differs, at one Baptist Church I went to used the NLT as their pew Bible, another either used KJV or NIV (can't remember), and yet another I have yet to figure out what translation they use (different pastors read out of different translations).
Because the copyright use of the 1984 edition ends by Jan. 1, 2013, I am looking now at alternatives, including NIV 2011, GW, and possibly something else, but not ESV. Some have the ESV study bible for study purposes, which is okay, as well as the LCMS NIV Study Bible (1986), but not the ESV for public worship.
Calvinist. Politics. US-Republican. Oct 9, 2006. #11. I've been looking into purchasing another study bible & I've been having a hard time deciding. So, since some of you on here own some of them, I would like to pick your brain a little and see which one I should purchase for myself.
Mar 14, 2004. #5. Okay, those symbols denote words that are not in the Hebrew text, but are added to more clearly identify the referent. For instance in Gen. 24:33, the previous statement has a pronoun "him" and "he" referring to the man who went to his house. The dialog continues at the end of the verse, but there is a switch in who is speaking.
