The town was named for its founder, Daniel Dimmick, who emigrated here from Mansfield, Connecticut by way of Hennepin, Illinois in 1833. [2] The railroad was extended to Dimmick c. 1865 by the Illinois Central Railroad. [3] In 1873, a rail depot was constructed to replace an earlier one that had fallen into disrepair and the town was platted.
On March 14 1960, three women, Frances Murphy (47), Mildred Lindquist (50), and Lillian Oetting (50), wives of prominent Chicago businessmen, took a four-day trip to Starved Rock State Park in LaSalle County, Illinois, along the banks of the Illinois River.
