The California Academy of Sciences is a research institute and natural history museum in San Francisco, California, that is among the largest museums of natural history in the world, housing over 46 million specimens. [3] The academy began in 1853 as a learned society and still carries out a large amount of original research. [4]
In 2005 a new public high school, the Academy of Arts and Sciences, was started and shares the McAteer campus with SOTA. Although it shares the campus with the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, it is a completely separate school. [4] Now called The Academy - San Francisco @ McAteer, it admits students through the normal high school admissions process.
Galileo Academy is located in the historic north end of San Francisco, and was originally built in 1921.
