Georgian Technical University was founded in 1922 as a polytechnic faculty of the Tbilisi State University. The first lecture was read by Georgian mathematician Professor Andrea Razmadze. Transformed in 1928 into an independent "Georgian Politechnical Institute" it achieved University status by 1990.

Since 1973 to present he has been working in Georgian Technical University. He was a head of the Civil Engineering Constructions Department in 1985–1995, and then, in 1995–2004, the head of the special constructions department founded by himself. Currently he is a full professor in the Georgian Technical University.

Professor Giuli Gegelia (Georgian: გიული გეგელია) (born 20 July 1942) is a Georgian architect, Professor of Architecture at the Georgian Technical University, since 1998, and member of the Executive Board of the Union of Georgian Architects.
