Houston Edward Summers IV (born October 26, 1983), known mononymously as Houston, is an American former R&B singer, [1] best known for his 2004 single "I Like That" (featuring Chingy and Nate Dogg). In 2005, Houston attempted suicide in a London hotel room, and later gouged his eye out with a fork on the 13th floor of his hotel building.
Z-Ro was born Joseph Wayne McVey IV in Houston's South Park neighborhood on January 19, 1977. [5] When he was six, his mother died, and he was shuttled from household to household in search of stability, eventually settling in the Ridgemont area, a middle-class neighborhood in Southwest Houston near the suburb of Missouri City. In the early 1990s, a new type of music began gaining popularity in Houston, collectively called "Chopped and screwed", which was pioneered by DJ Screw. [1] The sound was created from a turntable technique in which Screw slowed down the tempo and torqued with parts of hip-hop anthems, giving them a new hypnotic & mesmerizing sound which he believed also made the lyrics easier to understand.
