I bought a lot of James Brown singles (I probably have about 75) and also a lot of his albums, but the albums seemed somewhat secondary and the well-compiled anthologies that are available on CD do his body of work proud. FOUNDATIONS OF FUNK A Brand New Bag: 1964-1969 is unbeatable. FUNK POWER 1970: A Brand New Thang is absolute Godhead.

James Brown was the artist that really started me off as a music fan in 1970, at the time I was more of a singles buyer and later a compilations buyer. I had three of JBs albums when I was in high school in the early 70s, they were Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud, Ain't It Funky Now, and Hot Pants.

Just an observation but that's the only James Brown album art cover of all has albums prominently featuring a white woman other than the 1962 release of Good, Good, Twistin' With James Brown which features a white female and male, and no image of James Brown. Just an observation and nothing more.
