In 1967, the institution was renamed the Central Police Training College (CPTC) to reflect its expanded role in police training across India. [3] In 1974, the academy was renamed to honor Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, in recognition of his contributions to establishing the All India Services.
