Over time, Grand Forks has gradually expanded in population and now has 4,049 residents within its city limits. The greater rural area, (Area D of the Regional District of Kootenay-Boundary), has another ~3,500 residents. The Granby River is a tributary of the Kettle River in British Columbia, Canada, joining the Kettle just north of the Canada–United States border at the town of Grand Forks. The river is approximately 105 kilometres (65 mi) in length and has its origin in the Monashee Mountains to the west of Fauquier on the Arrow Lakes.
Administrative oversight transferred from the Port of Victoria to the Port of New Westminster in 1880 and to the Port of Grand Forks in 1899. The office closed in 1902 but reopened in 1905. Oversight passed to the Port of Greenwood in 1907 and the Port of Penticton in 1924. The status was upgraded to Port of Osoyoos in 1948. [2]
