The first Gwinnett County jail was built on the property, the jail was a small barn in the backyard, which was demolished in August 1933. County executions also took place at this location, the first being Jack Winn, an enslaved person owned by Elisha Winn, who was tried and hung on property. [ 3 ]

The Chesser-Williams House, a historic home which is believed to predate the 1850s and one of the oldest wooden-frame houses in Gwinnett county, was moved to the museum to become part of the museum's cultural exhibits. [63] Buford Community Center is a multi-purpose facility that was completed in 2012. [64]
The old Courthouse underwent a lengthy three year renovation starting in 1989. It reopened on July 3, 1992, as the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. Today, it serves as a rental venue for weddings, concerts, conferences, and other special events. It is one of the parks maintained by the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department.
