The Nebkota Railway (reporting mark NRI) was a Class III railroad that began operations in 1994 with 73.5 miles (118.3 km) of former Chicago and North Western Transportation Company Cowboy Line track between Merriman and Chadron, Nebraska. Prior to the abandonments, the railroad hauled primarily grain along with some gravel and timber.
A short-line railroad (the Nebkota Railway) did operate on the westernmost 74 miles (119 km) of the Cowboy Trail (from Chadron to Merriman) until 2007. The Cowboy Trail in that section was to be built on an easement parallel to the railroad.

It begins at the Nebraska border, north of Merriman, Nebraska, as a continuation of Nebraska Highway 61. It runs to the North Dakota border, where it continues as North Dakota Highway 49. It is just more than 255 miles (410 km) in length.
