The Pokémon anime series debuted in Japan on April 1, 1997, and as of 2024, the series has more than 1,300 episodes. However, for various reasons, some have been pulled from rerun rotation or went unaired in certain countries, while others were altered or completely banned .
Ash arrives at a seashore and encounters a Clauncher. Before he can catch it though, Misty, one of Ash's old traveling partners, declares that she'll be the one to catch it. Ash and Misty have a Pokémon battle to decide who gets to catch Clauncher, with the battle ending in Misty's favor. Later on, Misty decides to travel with Ash again.
The series originally follows the Pokémon trainer and aspiring Pokémon master Ash Ketchum [a] and his adventures with his electric mouse-like partner Pikachu (voiced by Ikue Ōtani), and a varying group of friends. However, by the 26th season, a new cast is featured, with new protagonists Liko and Roy.
In this prequel episode, Pikachu's backstory as a Pichu, his being cared for by a Kangaskhan after falling off a cliff, and the events leading to his evolution into a Pikachu and eventually meeting Ash are revealed. Note: In this episode, Hana Takeda voices young Ash Ketchum, Kei Shindō voices Goh, and Ikue Ōtani voices Pichu.

Ash and Bea's World Coronation Series battle continues, with Ash bringing out Sirfetch'd. Bea swaps Machamp for Hawlucha and defeats Sirfetch'd with a Sky Attack. Pikachu finishes off Hawlucha with a Thunderbolt but is subsequently taken out by Grapploct. Lucario returns to the battle and avenges Pikachu by knocking out Grapploct.

Soon after, Tapu Koko appears and battles Ash and Pikachu in order to test their ability to use the Z-Ring. Ash and Pikachu manage to unleash the Z-Move "Gigavolt Havoc", but the Z-Crystal shatters after Pikachu's immense release of power. In order to regain the power of Z-Moves, Ash decides to undergo the island challenge.
