In July 2000, an agreement was reached between the USS Salem Museum and the USS Newport News Museum and Memorial Foundation. Donations of items, memorabilia, audio/visual material, and more began to flow in. Between 2000 and 2002, multiple work parties were held to get the museum displays organized, installed, and arranged.
