Spirograph is a geometric drawing device that produces mathematical roulette curves of the variety technically known as hypotrochoids and epitrochoids. The well-known toy version was developed by British engineer Denys Fisher and first sold in 1965.
As a young man in 1827 he had developed a so-called "Speiragraph", an early prototype for the spirograph. He evidently continued on with experiments and inventions, and on 27 February 1860 received British patent no. 537 for 28 monocular and stereoscopic variations of cylindrical stroboscopic devices (see zoetrope ). Among his other patents were the parabolagraph, the spirograph, the electric bell used in trains, and an electric arc lamp of his own design. [5] Abakanowicz published several works, including works on statistics, integrators and numerous popular scientific works, such as one describing his integraph.
Between 1962 and 1964 he developed various drawing machines from Meccano pieces, eventually producing a prototype Spirograph. Patented in 16 countries, it went on sale in Schofields department store in Leeds in 1965. A year later, Fisher licensed Spirograph to Kenner Products in the United States. In 1967 Spirograph was chosen as the UK Toy of ...

When cranked it produces designs just like a Spirograph. --Saxophobia 13:39, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
A large number of artists, none particularly associated with the medium, were provided with a blue ballpoint pen and a sheet of letter-sized paper to create artwork for the exhibition. Juxtapoz art magazine commented that participating artists, using the common ballpoint pen, seemed to "gravitate back to a time before it all became so serious".
The first shipment of Spirograph arrived just before Christmas in 2012. The Spirograph (along with Kahootz' Lite-Brite) was exhibited at the 2013 Sweet Suite 13 [4] show in Chicago, Illinois and the 2014 American International Toy Fair in New York City, New York. [5] Since then, Kahootz Toys has expanded and released numerous new products and ...
